Shadows

Don’t get mesmerized
By the shadow cast
When the light is shining

A shadow is nothing more
Than an absence of light
Temporary and fleeting

Shadows grow across the ground
They’re biggest when
The light is dim

Shadows shrink when it’s bright
Becoming shapeless blobs
Hiding from the light

Don’t get mesmerized
By the shadow cast
When the light is shining

Focus instead on the light
As is gets bright
The shadows start fleeing

Thoughts on Thanks

I’ve been trying to come up with something thoughtful or catchy to say, but haven’t come up with anything. The truth is I have a lingering cough left over from being sick and have had a hard time with my asthma today. I find I am thankful for each breath that comes easily. Just the pure simple act of drawing life giving air into my lungs without wheezing is a gift I am thankful for.

Thank You Lord for breathing the breath if life into us, Amen.

No Shallow Roots

Without roots, even a small tree will fall. A tree’s roots reach down into the ground as far or farther down than the branches reach up into the sky. With only shallow roots, the tree will surely fall.

No Shallow Roots

Deep in my heart
The solid foundation is laid
On a rock no quake
Will ever be able to shake

My rock is Jesus
Saver of all
My rock is God
Creator of all

No shallow roots are these,
But like the mightiest trees
The pierce the ground
Holding firm forever

Adoption

Today is adoption Sunday at my church. I find myself reflecting on how God adopted us and how He has brought adopted children into our extended family. We wouldn’t be the same without these precious children. His design and plan for our family is perfect. I am grateful He brought these adopted children into our lives. Just the same, I am blessed beyond all imagining to have been adopted by Christ. He calls me daughter.

A Cry in the Night

An orphan cries out
In the middle if the night
No mother comes
To hug her tight

Oh who will come
Hold this child tight,
Tell her everything
Is going to be alright?

An orphan falls down
Scrapes up his knee
No one comes
To wash his scrape clean

Oh who will come
Hold this child tight,
Tell him he’ll be okay
He’s going to be alright?

The One who come
Is the Father of all
The ultimate parent
To the meek and small

Father to the fatherless
Hugger of those
Orphans in the night
Who are all alone

We all are His children
His daughters and sons
Orphan or not
He calls us His own

A heavenly, holy
Father to all
God is the One who
Comes to answer the call

The One who comes to
Hold each child tight,
Tell her everything
Is going to be alright
