Me Out of the Way

God loves everyone
He created the human race
In all it’s variety
God loves us each individually

Let me get out of the way
And let Him go
Inside me despite me
Let me get out of the way

God lives inside of me
He plans to show love
To this whole world
And I’m part of His plan

Let me get out of the way
And let Him go
Inside me despite me
Let me get out of the way

I get scared and sometimes
Want to run, just to hide
Sometimes I get afraid
And I completely forget to pray

Let me get out of the way
And let Him go
Inside me despite me
Let me get out of the way

Let the love of God flow
Let it spread and grow
Let it fill our world
Let His peace save us all

Let me get out of the way
And let Him go
Inside me despite me
I’m ready God. Lets go.

Don’t Drink the Whine

People whine
I don’t mean the drink
Made from grapes,
I mean the words
Made from sour ones

People whine a lot
Not the true grieving
Or righteous indignation,
But just complaints
It’s like they need to

People whine
They crave to be heard
They need someone to listen
Be an ear for them
But take care

When people whine,
Know they are whining,
Don’t grow bitter
Or lose your joy,
Don’t drink the whine

What My Church Is

My church is the people
Who follow Jesus
My church is not
A building that
Can be burned
Or vandalized
My church is the people
Scattered across the Earth
We speak many
Different languages
My church is
A rainbow of skin tones
A cornucopia of
Cultural traditions
Many of which
I don’t understand
My church is not
Limited to orthodox
Or even unorthodox
My church is anyone
Who declares
Jesus is Lord!
Accepts Him as Lord
Who is filled with
His spirit and led
By His purpose
That is my church

Rhonda, My Sister

The day I got my sister
Is one I won’t forget
That day you said, “I do.”
And took my brother’s hand

Before that day
I never knew
What a sister
Was to have.

As time passed
Our relationship grew
And I learned
A new kind of love.

You’ve shown me
What a sister is
And how fortunate I am
To have a sister in you

For fifteen years
I’ve been blessed
To have you in my life
To have you in my heart

You’re my sister,
In heart and soul
Words are inadequate to say
How much I love my sister

Dedicated to Rhonda, my big sister. June 19, 2013

How He Sees

When you look at us
You see our struggles
You see through all the layers
Straight to our hearts
You see all we
Are trying to hide
You see all we
Are trying to survive
You know if we hunger
You know our temptations
You feel our depression
You know us beyond need
To our deepest desires
You know our shame
You see our isolation
You see us without
Our cloaking layers
You see straight to our souls
You see deep inside
Nothing is hidden
From Your sight
And nothing You see
Is beyond Your reach
Nothing You see
Is bigger than Your grace
Nothing You see
Is bigger than Your forgiveness
That is how You see
Give us Your eyes

Purpose

I would lay down my life
For what I believe in
But I would go a step further
I will live my life
According to what I believe in
I have dedicated my
Time drawing breath
To the service of God
The God Who created
This world and all in it
And all that surrounds it
The God Who sent
Sacrificed a part of Himself
In the form of His son Jesus
To save us
That is my purpose
That is my drive
I do mess it up
I do stray, but I return
To my purpose
What I live for
