Veiled

Covered, hidden,
But still seen
How many of us
Walk around hoping
No one penetrates
The mask that we’ve put
In front of our faces
To veil who we are
We hide our hurt,
Don’t show our fear
Suck up our tears
Store our happiness inside
We think we need
To keep our guard up
Constantly checking
That no one can
Really see us
Is anyone else tired
Of pretending about everything?
I know I am and
Every day I struggle
To show the real me
To face the great big world
Authentically just being me
