According to the world
If we have nice things
We can’t possibly struggle
This is a lie,
Just like the mask we wear
When we say, “I’m fine”
Even though we’re not
Even when we’re aching inside
People in the nicest cars
With pretty smiles
Can still be torn apart inside
What we see is not
Always what we get
When it comes to people
The outside layers
Only tell a small portion
Of who a person is
It takes a lot to get deeper
Than the skin
Covering a human
What’s important is inside
According to the world,
The surface must shine
But to read a book,
The story is inside,
Not on the cover
So it is with humans
It’s time to look inside
